Dear Friends and lovers of great rock. Lost the great Mitch Mitchell yesterday.
The last surviving member of The Jimi Hendrix Experience Band.
He was an exceptional drummer
That helped shape the sound of Hendrix
I had the plessure of meeting him a few times. I asked him once what he was thinking when he played the groove to. ” Manic Depression”.
A jazzy almost latin type feel….. a circular moving piece of music.
He told me Hendrix said, ” Mitch just Think Africa man”
His influences were Jazz greats Elvin Jones and Max Roach.
He not only played with Hendrix but also greats such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, John Lennon and Muddy Waters.
Next time you put on Electric Ladyland, Axis: Bold as Love,
Or Are You Experienced?
Listen to the pure musicianship of one of the greatest drummers of all time.
God Bless Mitch Mitchell!!!
A Fan,
Matt Sorum

We will miss Mitch Mitchell sorely. I did not know Noel Redding dies too. Though I was a rocker in the 60, 70’s and 80’s I am now a born again Christian and a pastor. Yet Jimi, Noel and Mitch were such a great part of my life growing up. I was deeply saddened when I saw that Mitch died. The rock of the 60, 70’s and mid 80’s is so far above what is being produced today.
God bless you all
Jose Alvarez
I could not believe it! To me, 61 is too young to go. Like the mail from Jose Alvarez, I was unaware Noel Redding died too. I was a rocker in the 60’s and 70’s playing drums for various bands, traveling to different places all over the country. Mitch’s drumming, along with Carmen Appice, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Bobby Ramirez, Ginger Baker, Danny Seraphine, and Bobby Colomby gave me my own style in listening to those guys.
I’m a Christian since 1986 and now play for my church orchestra in Louisiana. You might think Christian music is for sissies, but try playing some of the stuff we play for Jesus. If it wasn’t for Mitchell and the rest laying down the foundation for me, there is no way I would be able to play the material we do at our church.

P.S. I use your Matt Sorum signature drum sticks
